Retrica is nothing short of bland. Especially since yesterday I had the pleasure of taking a look at an almost identical app. So you can imagine my delight at the prospect of going through this again. What does 'Retrica' even mean anyway? I mean, the name is definitely better than Sour Selfie Pickle Old Call, but I think that the hIpNesS has well surpassed intelligibility by this point, so it's anybody's guess.
As mentioned above, Retrica is very similar to Sour Selfie Pickle Old Call (which I'll be calling 'Pickle' from now on for the sake of simplicity). From start, in Retrica you can chose from taking a standard photo, making a collage, shooting a GIF or a video.
The GIF feature is fairly cool. You can use it to post weird gif's on Faceberg and whatnot. At least that's what the employees at my favorite coffee shop are doing. I think they're using Retrica, but I haven't asked them yet. They use a black & white filter.
Oh by the way, just as in Pickle, you can preview filters before taking a picture or saving a movie. Actually, that's the only time when you can set filters. The editing options leave a lot to desire. Unlike Pickle, Retrica does not allow you to re-shoot collage photos before saving the collage.
Some other post-shooting-pre-saving editing options include stickers, text and doodling. Stickers are very few and they're at a low resolution (there' no re-scaling either). See? Now that I got my hands wet with Pickle, I can pass judgment like a boss. There's also a crop tool, with which you can create new stickers. I can't imagine I'd use it in any other way than to place a bunch of mini-me's around my face (pictured above).
Although there is no inherent social aspect when compared with Pickle, Retrica does have cloud storage. Besides saving files on your device, you can also add them to your "Memories" folder. From there, you may retrieve them anytime and anywhere. That's why Retrica needs access to your account information.
- Collage photo
- can shoot gif's
- Stickers (including custom ones)
- Cloud storage
I know I've made Retrica look like the deformed sister of Pickle, but in all honesty, it's not far from that description. It could be that Retrica is still under development, which means more features are to come. I really hope that's true, because I hate Pickle's drag-down to take photo feature.
